Winstub Zuem Strissel, Strasbourg

Introduction

The Strissel is not only a good restaurant of Alsatian specialities which has fed the great ones of this world. It is also the oldest in Strasbourg (1395). Ideally located between the cathedral and the Ill river, it was the meeting place for the guilds (boatmen, sculptors, string players, etc.) as early as the Middle Ages. The sumptuous stained-glass windows and the column with rams' heads at the entrance bear witness to this period: "zum Widderer" (to the ram).
